Joke of the Weekend

I took my Uncles suggestion and wanted to see what happened. There is a burn ban in effect so I borrowed a friend of mines fake fire (it takes a plug in to run it). I hooked it up this afternoon under a covered area of our house. I knew the manager of our complex was hanging around doing some clean up work. I made a small stack of wood and put out lawn chairs and roasting sticks with the "campfire" in the middle.

I proceeded to start the fire (I plugged it in) and it roared to life. My son and I sat down around the fire with our roasting sticks and marshmellows. The phone calls must have come in pretty quick from our neighbors. Within minutes the manager pulled up to where we were and was very red faced. "What are you doing?" I looked at him and said, "Relaxing." He went on commenting that he had put flyers up on our door telling us there was to be no burning. There is a burn ban in effect. He looked at me and said, "You need to put that fire out." I looked at him and chuckled quietly and said, "Okay, if you say so." For some reason he started to get angrier and replied,"Yes! I say so." So I reached over and unplugged the fake fire and it died immediately. He looked at me then looked at the fire and back again. He then started smiling and laughing. I told him to pull up a chair and we could invite more people around until we run out of room under the covered area in the rain.

Before the night was over we had 15 people standing around a campfile shooting the breeze as though we were out camping. It is amazing how one small device can create such a social atmosphere.
