DUH!! Moment of the Day

I work for a mortgage company and we have 2 offices with 10+ people in each office. Each day there are combined tasks. This particular morning I had to deliver some items to our upstairs office. I debated taking the stairs or using the elevator. I know I could use the exercise but I was feeling lazy on this particular sunny day.

I pressed the button to call the elevator to my floor. The doors opened and I entered. Now being the only person in the elevator I stood there checking my hair and make up to make sure I didn’t look funny or have anything out of order. As I stood there I noticed something was wrong but couldn’t quite figure out what it was.

I finally figured it out when the doors popped open and there was the maintenance man for the building. As I stood there looking around I realized I was still on the first floor where I started. Bill looked at me and asked me what I was doing. I told him I was headed up to the second floor. He chuckled quietly and said, “The only way you are going to get up there is by pressing the button for the next floor.” As I stood there somewhat dumbfounded I started laughing. I had been preening in an elevator that wasn’t going to move unless I pressed the button. I have been working here so long that elevator should already know where I want to go and what it needs to do…I should not have to push any stinking buttons. This is what I thought to myself on top of ….stupid…stupid….stupid…..all the way to the next office.
